David Leversage
Senior Research Scientist
David is a Senior Research Scientist for security analysis and modeling of critical infrastructures at Byres Research. His work focuses on the application of risk and attack models for identifying vulnerabilities in SCADA systems and protocols. As well, David maintains the Industrial Security Incident Database (ISID), an industry reporting system for tracking security incidents that occur against critical industrial processes.
When not conducting research, he is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at British Columbia Institute of Technology, teaching courses in electronics and data communications. His research has included analysis of the vulnerabilities in the SCADA protocol DNP-3 for Cisco Systems, developing a qualitative risk analysis methodology for the US Department of Homeland Security (through Idaho National Labs) and creating new techniques for analyzing Mean Time to Compromise (MTTC) in critical systems.
David started his security career by working in the Technical and Scientific Services branch of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), where he designed and managed the implementation of secure voice and data networks for the Canadian government. Prior to his career in electronic security, he was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, specializing in air weapons systems.
